Georgia Mechell Skerik, age 87, of West, passed away late Tuesday evening, October 28, 2008 at West Rest Haven. A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Friday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel by Janice Kaluza, with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Georgia was born June 13, 1921 in West, the daughter of Karal Charles and Mary (Kaska) Nors. She attended St. Mary's School and the old Alligator School. On September 26, 1939 she was united in marriage to Emil Mechell in West. He preceded her in death on August 2, 1974. Then on July 20, 1980 she married William A. Skerik in West and he also preceded her in death on June 29, 2005. Georgia was a homemaker and volunteered at West Rest Haven for over 30 years. She was a life time and very faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. She was also a member of the S.P.J.S.T. Lodge No. 6 in Cottonwood and the K.J.Z.T. St. Ludmila Society No. 11. Georgia enjoyed quilting by hand, embroidering, gardening, and canning. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. Her parents; a grandson, Lawrence Mechell; four brothers, John Nors, Raymond Nors, Frank Nors, and Joe Nors; and four sisters, Mary Bordovsky, Adele Chudej, Agnes Vykukal, and Annie Chudej also preceded her in death. Survivors include four sons, Fred Mechell and wife Barbara of West, Jerry Mechell and wife Janie of Arlington, Larry Mechell of Elm Mott, and Terry Mechell and wife Julie of West; two daughters, Doris Horton and husband Floyd of West and Joanie Watson and husband Michael of Penelope; 22 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Pallbearers are grandsons Jimmy Grmela, Andrew Mechell, Aaron Mechell, James Watson, Scott Mechell, Justin Mechell, and Robert Skerik. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's School Endowment Fund or the West Rest Haven Activity Fund.
