Charlie J. Pavlas, age 79, of Abbott, passed away Wednesday November 28, 2012 at Providence Health Center. A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Abbott, with Rev. Ouseph Thekkumthala as celebrant, assisted by Deacon Denver Crawley. Burial will follow at Fatima Cemetery near Abbott. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Aderhold Funeral Home in West. Charlie was born December 23, 1932 in Hill County, the son of Victor Sr. and Lillie (Snapka) Pavlas. He graduated from Abbott High School and enlisted in the United States Army, where he served his country for two years. On November 24, 1956 he was united in marriage to Lillie (Lil) Svrcek in West. Charlie worked for General Tire and Rubber Company for 31 years before retiring in 1987. He was also a farmer and rancher his entire life. Charlie served on the board of the Menlow Water Supply and was instrumental in the purchasing and building of the Menlow #2 Water Well. He was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Abbott, where he and Lil volunteered at many church meals and cooked for many funerals. Charlie was a member of K.J.T. Society #107 and Honorary Lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus in Abbott. He enjoyed fishing, watching his grandchildren play ball, spending summers with them, and taking them swimming to Teta Maes. He also enjoyed butchering and making sausage with family and friends and listening to Czech music. Charlie is preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter; a son, Larry Pavlas; and a grandson, Nicholas Pavlas. Survivors include his beloved wife of 56 years, Lil Pavlas of Abbott; three sons, Dennis Pavlas and wife Michele of West, Michael Pavlas and wife Stephanie of Penelope, and Louis and wife Sherry of Gholson; brother, Victor Pavlas and wife Mary Ann; sister, Willie Mae Polansky and husband Sam; grandchildren, Lillie Pavlas, Breanna Pavlas, Brent Pavlas, Sophie Pavlas, Cassie Pavlas, and Travis Pavlas; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Active pallbearers are Michael Kraemer, George Kaska, Jr., Chad kaska, Justin Kaska, Richard Polansky, Michael Kasberg, Emil Pustejovsky Jr., and Chris Ivy. Honorary pallbearers are Breanna Pavlas, Brent Pavlas, Sophie Pavlas, Cassie Pavlas, Travis Pavlas, Amanda Kraemer, Heather Kraemer, and Cody Kraemer. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
